The place to be come November 1 will be the Maison Mumm Marquee at Flemington for the Melbourne Cup — or at one of the exclusive bars in Auckland who are partnering with Mumm Champagne — to celebrate what is considered the most glamorous racing event in the Southern Hemisphere, and what marks the start of the New Zealand race season, which will peak with the Auckland Cup in March.
A wonderful chance to dress up, share racing tips and enjoy a Champagne-fuelled afternoon, the top places here to watch the big race are Harbourside Ocean Bar Grill and Botswana Butchery, where for $150 you’ll receive a glass of Mumm and a four-course lunch (ph (09) 307 0556). Others can join in at 5.30pm for the afterparty with DJs Dave Hull and Murray Sweetpants.
Soul Bar & Bistro’s special lunch has already sold out, but the venue opens for an afterparty as well (ph (09) 356 7249), while in Ponsonby at the Longroom, $110 gets you an afternoon of canapes including the clam and oyster bar, Mumm Cordon Rouge, Ros? and Champagne cocktails and live entertainment plus DJs Lewis McCallum, Bevan Keys and Murray Sweetpants (email info@longroom.co.nz). Each venue will also have TABs on site.
