With this book, writer Linda Burgess and photographer Robert Burgess provide an altogether religious experience!
Chronicling their travels while visiting historic, unique, quirky, architecturally significant, weather-beaten, downtown and back-of-beyond churches across the country, this book has more than just a story or two to tell.
And what book about New Zealand’s sacred places would be complete without a look at Howick’s own All Saints Anglican Church? Linda writes:

Chronicling their travels while visiting historic, unique, quirky, architecturally significant, weather-beaten, downtown and back-of-beyond churches across the country, this book has more than just a story or two to tell.
And what book about New Zealand’s sacred places would be complete without a look at Howick’s own All Saints Anglican Church? Linda writes:
“Old All Saints in Howick... was built to serve the needs of the Fencible community, whose history is so closely linked to the area.
“All Saints was built in 1847 in anticipation of [a] growth in population. It is one of the pretty Selwyn churches that were designed by Frederick Thatcher, but it is unusual in that it was entirely prefabricated in workshops at St John’s College in Meadowbank. All Saints was the first of a planned series of prefabricated churches to be built around Auckland, and it is the only one that remains.”
This is just a sample of Linda’s clear, concise description of the history of our local town’s early settlers and one of its most iconic landmarks. Discover more colourful histories of marvellous churches, beautifully depicted in handsome photographs in Historic Churches.
