You may be one of many New Zealanders taking fish oil everyday but the latest research into fish oil and brainpower shows you’re probably not taking enough. A much higher than average intake of an important Omega-3 fatty acid in fish oil is needed to support clear thinking and mental focus.
A six-month study by New Zealand’s Massey University, involving a group of men and women aged between 18 and 45 who had a low dietary intake of DHA (an omega-3 fatty acid found in cold water fatty fish, such as salmon), showed more than a gram (1160 mg) of DHA a day supported healthy mental focus in women and healthy reaction times in men*.
